Being a new mom is scary. Everything is new and you want to do everything just right but that can only happen when you know what to do. There are so many questions that race your mind every step of the way. The rules with a new born baby as compared to even a toddler are very different. So, lets dive into some questions you might have-
Well not necessarily, a new born baby is extremely sensitive to everything so just sponge baths for the start. After the umbilicus area heals you can start the baby on water baths but no harsh soaps or shampoos. As your baby grows you can start them on daily or alternate day bathing because it going to get messy.
In the initial days you can't, so don't bother doing so. Infants wake up to feed as frequently as 2-3 hours. Over time, your baby will be able to sleep longer at night with less frequent feeds.
After 4-6 months babies sleep longer at night with 1-2 night feeds. Falling asleep is a learning process for new-borns and after 9-12 months babies truly sleep through the night.
It depends on the baby’s age. Jaundice is common in new-borns due to an unmetabolized pigment called bilirubin but don’t be concerned it can be treated with breastfeeding and plenty of sunlight while the little one is asleep. Though If your baby is very sleepy, not feeding well and losing weight visit a doctor right away.
Post birth the immunity of the mother and the baby both is compromised so avoid going out in the initial 2-3 months. Post that you can take the baby out in public but try avoiding people touching the baby’s hands or mouth because the first thing your baby is going to do is lick their own hands.
Every mother can learn to massage her baby, in fact it's the most hygienic and helps the mother and baby bond and understand each other better. Baby massage should be done with natural chemical-free oil post a test patch application to prevent allergies. It should be done when the infant is alert and in a happy playful mood. Avoid massaging the baby if they have a fever or on the day of vaccination.
